José Marques – Introduction

Military by profession, it was as a hobby that in the year 2000 he started navigating cross-country. His first race was Baja de Monchique, from the CC National Championship, but his love for Africa soon took him to the great African rallies. He started there at the 2005 Moroccan Rally.

In 2006 he became a professional navigator. His navigational skills soon made him one of the best in the world. He is different from the others in many aspects, such as the strictness, the discipline and the dedication with which he practices the activity, but also his excellent aptitude to understand the ground, as well as a sensibility to deal with the drivers.

His first experience as a navigator in a truck took place in 2011, at Elisabete Jacinto’s side, and in 2012 he became a full member of the Oleoban/MAN Portugal team.

He knows the desert very well, loves to travel, and cross-country is still one of his sources of pleasure, be it by motorcycle or by bicycle.

Marco Cochinho – Introduction

Marco Cochinho – Truck Mechanic

He was National Light Contact champion between 1996 and 1998, Thai-Boxing World Vice-Champion in 1999 and European Vice-Champion in 2000. Being an enthusiast of sports in general, he practises Indoors Football and Cross-Country Cycling as hobbies, and he does not miss any TV broadcasting of all sorts of motor car racing.

Professionally he is a truck mechanic, and he joins Oleoban/MAN Portugal team as assistance mechanic for the Euromilhões Lisboa-Dakar rally in 2007.
Afterwards he assumes the responsibility of MAN M2000 maintenance and development, doing that job in Hydraplan, MAN concessionary in Alverca.
In September 2007, at Guy Hoquet rally in Morocco he enters the competition team for the first time, seating between Elisabete Jacinto and José Marques inside the race truck.

Hélder Anjos – Introduction

Assistance mechanic

Since 2001 he dedicates his life to trucks mechanics, which gives him professional satisfaction.

He played football for Clube de Futebol do Carregado, but now he dedicates his leisure time to his dog “Pit”, training it.

The first time he took part in a motor competition was as assistance mechanic in Oleoban/MAN Portugal team for the 2007 Guy Hoquet rally in Morocco. He repeats the experience at the 2008 AMV Shamrock rally, also in Morocco. His mechanical knowledge and his interest in the races tie him definitely to the team, and he is now responsible for the maintenance of the racing truck during the competitions.

Pedro Azevedo – Introduction

Pedro Azevedo – Assistence Truck Driver

Pedro Azevedo is a manager and a cross-country enthusiast. In 1987 he began taking part in motorcycle Endurance competitions and, between 1991 and 1997, he entered the Campeonato Nacional de Todo-o-Terreno (Cross-Country National Championship) also on motorcycle.

Though competitions have been nothing but a hobby, his liking for cross-country made him join assistance teams for the Dakar Rally in 2006, 2007 and 2009; it has also led him to cooperate sporadically in the organization of cross-country competitions.

He joins Elisabete Jacinto’s team for the first time for the 3rd edition of the Africa Race rally, in 2011, driving the assistance truck.

Jorge Gil – Introduction

Team Manager

He was an undergraduate in Economy, has a degree in Geography and worked as commercial manager.

At first, motorcycle cross-country was a hobby started in 1987. He took part in competitive races, besides innumerable pleasure rides, but his personal emotional relationship with the driver Elisabete Jacinto soon made him leave the competitions and assume the management of this driver’s team, which he has been doing since 1992.

Beyond managing the team and taking care of all its logistics, he also learned the secrets of assistance mechanics and was responsible for assisting Elisabete Jacinto’s motorbike during World Cup competitions between 1998 and 2001, as well as for assisting the driver Mário Brás during the 2000 Dakar rally and the driver Pedro Machado in 2001.

Besides photography, a hobby he has since 1976, he is also an enthusiast of recreational diving.
